Megaupload shutting down ≠ SOPA
So stop saying that.
BUT… it highlights the question, if they can do that without SOPA/PIPA… why do they need SOPA/PIPA?
(The answer is they never really did, they just want to make it EZMode to go along with their whims and desires)…
I also always approve of using ≠ or != as much as humanly possible.
Exactly right. Heavy lobbying on the part of the entertainment industry so that they can have access to an internet killswitch instead of letting the feds do the investigation themselves. They want to circumvent the legal system because they know that IP piracy is pretty low on the feds priority list. The FBI went after megaupload because of a number of things and racketeering was probably a much bigger factor in their investigation, it just so happened that they could also bring down one of the biggest sites for distributing pirated material as well as a pretty big cyber threat, given that megaupload spreads malware like nobodies business.
